Guide on How to Clean Painted Walls

How to Clean Painted Walls

One of the top questions we hear from our clients is “Can you clean my walls?” or “How do I clean my walls?”. It’s difficult to give a straight answer to these questions, as there are many factors that should be evaluated. Unfortunately, washing painted walls can be a tricky situation, and depending on the condition of your walls, it may be a better option for you to just paint them. The roadmap below outlines when you should clean your painted walls, and when it’s better to re-paint them.

How to clean painted walls

The roadmap above lists out specific instances when it is necessary to repaint your walls or when cleaning them will be sufficient. If you find that you can get away with washing your walls, and don’t need to re-paint, don’t worry, cleaning them will be an easy task. Grab a few microfiber cloths (or a microfiber mop) and lightly spray it with a neutral cleaning solution diluted with water. You’ll be able to gently wipe the spots and smudges clean off of your walls. Make sure your walls or only slightly dampened with the solution, and not soaking wet.

Avoid using harsh chemicals, scratchy sponges, or magic erasers, as these products can go straight through the layer of paint. Make sure to have the room well lit while painting your walls, so you can clearly see any differences in color that may have resulted from spot cleaning. Cleaning your walls can be extremely time consuming, so consider enlisting the help of a buddy, or doing one room at a time to avoid burnout.
