Shedding season is here… but your guests don’t have to know that! We all love our pets, but that does not mean we need little furry reminders all over our floors, furniture and clothes! We put together a list of our secret tricks we use to combat excess fur during shedding season.


1.) Groom Your Pets Often

Make sure you’re grooming your pets often enough. How often you groom them will depend on a variety of factors, including breed, coat length, and how fussy they are when you pull out the brush! Some pets love a good brushing but others run and hide from the sight of it. If your pet tries to resist being groomed, you can try to hand feed them their favorite treats to make them feel more at ease.


2.) Use The Right Grooming Tools

 Use the correct type of brush for your pet. Bristle brushes are best for cats and dogs with a longer coat, while rubber combs are best for short haired pets.  If your pet seems like the brush is too sharp or dull for them, try a different kind.


3.) Try a New Shampoo or Brand of Food

 Certain pet shampoo and foods contain additional nutrients to help your animals maintain that healthy shiny coat. A diet that lacks moisture can actually cause dry skin and weak brittle fur, more prone to shedding. If your pet is used to an all dry food diet, try adding a can of wet food a few times a week. It will add the necessary moisture, and your pet will think of it as a nice treat for them!


4.) Lint Rollers are a Pet Owners Best Friend

 It may be time to start buying your lint rollers in bulk! Keep one in your car, because even though our furry friends may not be riding with us, their fur always ends up on our seats. You can also bring one to work, just in case you missed a few stray hairs before you left this morning. I’d recommend you ALWAYS keep a few near furniture or in a drawer. A quick swipe on your couch can work even better than a vacuum!


5.) Change and Clean Vents and Ducts

Remember to change and clean air ducts and filters regularly. Fur has a habit of ending up where we least expect it to. Pet hair in the filters will eventually start blowing around in the air, and end up everywhere. Can’t remember the last time you checked your filters? Well now may be the perfect time to get it done.
